Ang Paboritong Libro ni Hudas
by Bob Ong
May mga bagay daw sa mundo na tinanggap na lang natin bilang katotohanan kahit walang pruweba o paliwanag. - Bob Ong
Faith. It is a deep understanding and complete trust in a thing or person. We are given freedom to believe in a religion and freedom to act in accordance with such belief. It's up to us who and what to believe even to those that is not based in proof.
When I first read the few pages of the book, I then realize that all chapters are divided based on the seven capital sins. Chapters are entitled as Veny, Geran, Depir, Ventocoseuss, Tuls, Gynottul and Holts. I thought that Bob Ong was only using Latin words or different terms but they are actually scrambled letters that need to rearrange to form words such as Envy, Anger, Pride, Covetousness, Lust, Gluttony and Sloth.
I really don't understand what Bob Ong wants to tell in the beginning but when I come to know the titles of each chapter as I go on with the book, I learned that its contents have something to do with the title. If only I don't get this, I probably end not liking the book which on the other hand, didn't happen.
The book is completely different from other Bob Ong's books though some part of it is derived from his previous books as mentioned. Here, he talks about religious faith about God—his purpose and his creation and Christ; unlike in his other books that I'd read that talk about school, society and politics. He also shares some stories about his journeys in life relevant to the capital sins.
I found the book entertaining however informative because of the logical instances and facts that he put in the book. I really appreciate the book for making the readers realize who really God is, who are we as his people, our relationship with him and his Son, Jesus Christ, and reasons why do some people don't believe in him-blaming him for everything. I'd also seen some parts that are irrelevant in the book.
What I love the most is the conversation between the two men who in the end revealed that the first man is the person who reads this black and senseless book, Ang Paboritong Libro ni Hudas, “Ngayon din ay magbabalik ka sa lupa. Makikita mo na lang ang sarili mo na taimtim na nagbabasa ng katapusan ng itim na librong walang kwenta at hindi mo maintindihan...” while the other man who I believe is Jesus Christ. This is something that needs reflection and/or meditation because I realize that I'm part of it.
I just want to quote a portion from the book, “Hindi dahil sa hindi mo naiintindihan ang isang bagay ay kasinungalingan na ito. At hindi lahat ng kaya mong intindihin ay katotohanan.”
